Forex is the market of the world’s currencies. Being an over-the-counter market, there are no centralised exchanges like in the case of the stock market. Instead, currencies are traded during various Forex trading sessions that span from Sydney in Australia, to New York in the United States. Forex traders buy a currency if they anticipate that its price may rise, and short-sell a currency if they believe its price could fall, making a profit from the difference in the entry and exit price.

In addition, they offer two premium services which provide access to their ‘Strike 3.0’ product.  You have the option of Advanced or Titanium plans, at US$49* or US$97* per month respectively. If you are concerned about trading foreign currencies without the leverage, we can tell you that some great traders in the market do not use leverage. The following example will illustrate how this can still work. For instance, you buy $2000 with the 1600 EUR. So, in the worst case, if the price of USD drops by 50%, you are not bad. In this case, you are still left with 800 EUR. On the other hand, if you use the leverage ratio 100:1, bear in mind that you will lose all of the money. Even if you earn something without using the leverage it cannot be anything significant. Only wise decisions can lead you to serious profit.

In the previous paragraph, we have mentioned the term leverage. It is important to say, that people join the Forex market because it provides them with higher leverage, which is different from other financial instruments. This means that you can borrow a higher amount of money from your broker for your investments. Furthermore, borrowing the money from your broker and higher investments will provide you with the bigger potential to make a profit, because you will earn a precise percentage of your investment.
Under IBKR Lite, options for U.S. markets have no base fee and cost $0.65 each. Thanks to tiered pricing, costs can go down to $0.15 per contract with high volumes. All orders have a $1 minimum, but that $1 is a drop in the bucket for larger traders looking to take advantage of the unique tiered pricing structure. However, IBKR Pro account holders must keep a $100,000 balance or generate $10 in commissions per month to avoid a $10 monthly inactivity fee.

Interest Rate Risk: The moment that a country’s interest rate rises, the currency will strengthen. The boost in strength can be attributed to an influx of investments in that country’s assets since with a stronger currency, higher returns can be more likely. But if the interest rate falls, the currency will weaken, which may result to more investors withdrawing their investments.

To conclude this Forex basic tutorial, let’s see what trading platforms are all about. A trading platform is simply a program that you install on your computer which is then used to connect to your brokerage account and start trading. Nowadays, there are also web-based and mobile-based trading platforms which can be opened directly in your browser or installed on your smartphone. Check with your broker if those types of platforms are offered.

What do buying and selling currencies look like? First of all, there is always someone buying a pair of currencies and someone selling a pair. The process of making a profit by buying and selling goes like this: You buy US $3000 by selling 2000 euros. This means that you are predicting the value of the US dollar will increase against the euro. If you were right, then, another step needs to be taken to make a profit. You need to sell your US $3000 into euros. Now you will obtain more than 2000 euros. The process as you can see is quite simple.
The world of foreign exchange, or forex, can be daunting even to experienced hands-on investors. They have a simple philosophy of how to become a successful trader: “make pips, keep pips, repeat.” But they don’t shy away from telling you it’s going to be difficult. Their course is well structured with levels ranging from ‘preschool’ to ‘graduation’ with maybe a few too many puns throughout!  If you enjoy their humour then this course could be the perfect forex entry point.

Courtney Smith begins How to Make a Living Trading Foreign Exchange with an introduction to the world of forex that explains how the market works. But most of this 2010 work is devoted to making money, offering six strategies to earn a steady income by trading. He also provides important risk management techniques as well as material on the psychology of trading. It includes an explanation of Smith's unique "rejection rule," a strategy designed to double the profit generated from basic channel breakout systems.
When you make an initial trade in the forex market, you enter into a position. This means you’ve effectively taken a position on the future direction of the exchange rate of the currency pair you made a transaction in. You can add to that position by making additional transactions in the same direction or reduce that position by closing out existing trades.
Beginners can select assets to make up a watchlist, and they also get access to a well-arranged format of selection of Leaders whose trades can be copied. Of particular importance is the Risk Score, which is probably the most important metric that should be considered by beginners when selecting a Leader. The Risk Scoring system of eToro is one of the best out there. It shows in clear figures and in graphical form, how conservative or how risky a Leader’s traders are.
The MT5 is the next level platform in the MetaTrader platform series. While it retains many features of the MT4, there are some enhancements and outright changes that have been included. There is still a lot of confusion as to what Metaquotes really wants to do with the MT4 and MT5. Initially launched as a replacement for the MT4, the MT5 has found it hard to achieve the kind of market penetration that the MT4 got. So Metaquotes seems just content with allowing retail brokers run along with both platforms. Some forex brokers have tried to push the usage of the MT5 by only allowing certain trading assets on the MT5. So it is not surprising that you will see some brokers offering only stock CFDs or cryptocurrencies on the MT5 platforms they offer.
Now, let's say a call option on the stock with a strike price of $165 that expires about a month from now costs $5.50 per share or $550 per contract. Given the trader's available investment budget, he or she can buy nine options for a cost of $4,950. Because the option contract controls 100 shares, the trader is effectively making a deal on 900 shares. If the stock price increases 10% to $181.50 at expiration, the option will expire in the money and be worth $16.50 per share ($181.50-$165 strike), or $14,850 on 900 shares. That's a net dollar return of $9,990, or 200% on the capital invested, a much larger return compared to trading the underlying asset directly. (For related reading, see "Should an Investor Hold or Exercise an Option?")
Risk/Reward: If the share price rises above the strike price before expiration, the short call option can be exercised and the trader will have to deliver shares of the underlying at the option's strike price, even if it is below the market price. In exchange for this risk, a covered call strategy provides limited downside protection in the form of premium received when selling the call option.
For example, if you want to buy 0.8 lots of EUR/USD at the current market price of 1.1150 and using a leverage of 1:100 you need to have in your account at least $892 to open that position. In other words, with only $892 you can control a position size of $80,000 (0.8 lots) which is your buying power. Because of this, forex trading for beginners might be more affordable than you assumed.
